Why do I need a secure web server?

If you are serious about e-commerce and promoting online sales you must have a "secure" way of taking both personal details and credit cards!

Not having a secure server will greatly reduce the amount of online sales you receive!

We can prove this as we know of examples where people have setup online shops without a secure server. The owners were disappointed that after several months they were receiving no (or very few) orders - we suggested they add a secure server facility and as soon as this was added their sales volume increased dramatically!

Most people expect to see the "padlock" symbol on the bottom line of their browser window and will not send their details or order over an insecure link.

Your secure server also has a different URL (web address) - your secure web server will appear as https:// (not just http://) - see here for more details.

Having a secure server helps with "customer confidence" in two ways:

  • When you apply for a secure server certificate an independent body will verify the details you have provided to ensure they are correct and "you are who you say you are".

  • A secure web server encrypts the data between their browser and your secure web server so any details sent are private.

If you are still unsure - ask yourself this question:

"Would you order online from a site that
did not have a secure web server?"
