Why do I have problems accessing
a secure web server?

Not all browsers support secure web servers (SSL encrypted pages) - this is usually the case for older web browsers (see below) and simpler web browsers used on some palmtop/PDA computers.

Another common fault is due to the date and time setting on your machine - secure server certificates are issued and are valid for 1 year at a time - if the date and time on your machine is incorrect it may say the server certificate is invalid. Check your date and time are correct and retry the page!

There are several registrars of secure web certificates - we use THAWTE secure server certificates for our secure web servers. THAWTE provide around 35% of the secure web server certificates currently in use around the world.

On a small percentage of older browsers you either cannot access or get an error message when connecting to our secure web servers. If you do experience any problems - click here - you will be to be transferred to the THAWTE web site which contains more information about browser compatibility and the various fixes that are available.

Alternatively the problem may be due to using an older web browser - this may be rectified by upgrading to a newer version. Contact your IT Department, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or see the following links:

If you are accessing the Internet from your company - the problem could be due to your Firewall or web proxy configuration - please see your IT Department or System Administrator.

After checking the above items - if you still encounter problems please contact us or email us at: support@getonline.co.uk
